Dahlia tuber FAQ & policies

Because even tubers come with fine print (and a little dirt).

Dahlia tuber shipping

While we try to make the process of dahlia tuber shopping and shipping as straight forward as possible, we realize it can get a bit confusing. We are always available to answer questions via email but please read through these frequently asked questions to see if your question can be answered here first.

About the process

All tubers are grown by us at Tiny Acre Farm and undergo vigorous inspection before being offered for sale. We are committed to offering the very best quality tubers and varieties for cut flower production, as we grow these varieties ourselves for our many florist customers.

Tubers are purchased a couple months before they ship out to you because they are highly susceptible to temperature and humidity changes. We store them in ideal conditions and ship them out when the weather allows them to travel to you safely.

Tuber size varies depending on variety, but we guarantee that all dahlia tubers purchased from us will have at least one eye (which may or may not be visible at time of shipment) and are true to name.

Shipping Schedule:

Tubers typically start shipping in early April but can sometimes stretch into May depending on weather and where you’re located.

Because of the volume of orders we receive, we unfortunately cannot offer combined shipping at this time.

If you’ve selected an earlier shipping date at checkout, your tubers will ship in the timeframe selected.

Claims Policy:

All claims regarding shipping damage or unsatisfactory tubers must be made within 48 hours of delivery.

We are not responsible for tubers drying out or rotting in post-shipment storage, growing conditions, improper planting, poor customer care or pest damage.

Dahlia tuber shipping cost is
NON-REFUNDABLE

Our tubers are held at 40*F so your tuber eye may still be dormant and not have a sprout when your package arrives. All tubers are inspected multiple times to ensure viability. If your tubers fail to show an overt eye or sprout within 6 weeks of receiving, please send along a photo of the tuber, along with your order number, replacements or a refund will be issued.

Frequently asked questions

  • Open your box immediately to allow them to breathe and check your tubers, claims for unsatisfactory tubers must be made within 48 hours of your tubers arriving.

If you are going to hold the tubers until time to plant, hold them in a frost free area around d 40-45 degrees and at about 80-90% humidity (if you have more than 3-4 weeks until planting time). If you are within 3-4 weeks of your planting time when they arrive, you can usually leave them at room temp. Make sure they can breathe. The warmer your storage area, the faster your tubers will develop sprouts called eyes.

  • When you plant your dahlia tubers relies on your growing zone. You want to wait until after your last frost date, when the soil has warmed to around 60 degrees F. In our zone (6B) that is typically around May 10th, but be sure to check the date for your zone.
