Dahlia Growing Guide

  1. Wait to plant out until the soil has warmed to 60°F and all danger of frost has passed. Find a planting spot that is in full sun.

  2. Amend the soil with compost and balanced fertilizer.

  3. Dig a hole 4-6" deep and place the tuber on its side, horizontally with the growing eye facing up. Once in place, refill the hole with soil. Plant your tubers at least 12-18" apart.

  4. Do not water your tubers until you see the first green shoots poking through the ground.

  5. After plants reach about a foot tall, give them a hard pinch by sniping out 3-4" of the growing center to encourage branching.

  6. By mid Summer, stake your plants to keep from falling over.
